The 2025 Dead and Company Vegas residency announcement comes at a poignant time for the Grateful Dead legacy. Before Phil Lesh's passing in October, the surviving Dead members had been planning a 60th-anniversary reunion for 2025. "We were gonna see where it goes, but we were just gonna play the four of us," Weir told CBS News, revealing they even had rehearsal time scheduled. "I was hoping that we could play with him again one more time," Kreutzmann added. "'Cause I know he wanted to play with us again, too." Now, while that reunion remains uncertain, Dead and Company carries the torch at Sphere, where their 2024 residency grossed over $130 million across 30 shows, ranking as the seventh-highest-grossing concert residency in history.
The 18 shows span three key periods - March 20-22 and 27-29, April 17-19 and 24-26, and May 9-11 and 15-17. While these dates represent Dead and Company's "only Sphere shows in 2025," the band's future plans remain open. With Dead set to receive Kennedy Center Honors and the 2025 MusiCares Person of the Year award, Kreutzmann has acknowledged that any future 60th-anniversary celebration would need to include other musicians, stating "We'd have to have other musicians join us... and we have some favorite musicians, you know?"
